Timing is an Art is an Axe / The Duets

The project for 2025, Timing is an Art is an Axe — working in collaboration with some of my favorite musicians, recording in a duet format. A few yeas back marked a half century since receiving my first guitar — an old Rio classical — and my first lesson. Timing is an Art is an Axe toys with the very unexpected result from a random but common, innocent act of childhood. Something as pedestrian and mundane as a music lesson after school, but the weighted result -- an entire goddamned life consumed by the arts. This is not a retrospective. It's just a collection of brief observations on a lifetime battling all the hobgoblins, all the doubt, all the despair, the poverty, depression, chaos, but also the good, the joy, the adventures, the sex, the so many fuck-ups and the absolute stupid fun of taking a couple of notes for a very long walk night after night after dark night. This recording project will coalesce five decades of musical frayed ends, make the half-assed ideas make sense … maybe … string out, bring out, ring out all those strung out notes and chords … hopefully … and let them fall away and live where they may land, it is what it is … definitely. And some of my true musical heroes are already on board for this project … let’s see where it will go!

Hell Comes in Time

An older song. A new video! The video was produced by World's Smallest Productions and directed by Shelley Hanna. The sound engineer and producer was Martin Feveyear.

‘Hell comes on time in a straight line. It just circles around draws you down hovering by your side. What did today decide? God and us collides? God and us collide. The words at the start follow the curve of a thought. With every turn of the turn another note get lost the song falls apart. What did today decide? God and us collides? God and us collide. Hell comes on time.’

Just Not Flying

One of the pieces of the larger work titled Timing is an Art is an Axe. Recorded and filmed live on Vashon Island at the Black Cat Cabaret, December 2019. Written by Michael Whitmore.

Falling, not falling Falling, not at all Falling, not falling, just not flying Drunk as a drunk in lust So many kisses lost, so many kisses, kisses, kisses From time to time it’s a game we play A white knuckled ride dropped thru the haze Playing out these days
