Gigs & News

Our old friend and composer from those halcyon LA days, Stan Fairbank, has released a set of 5 nocturnes that were inspired by and dedicated to musician friends, I've been so honored as to be one of those musicians included! Thanks Stan. Check out his project!

A couple of days ago I had nothing on the 2023 calendar, nothing, not a hint, not a smidgen, not a good start for a new year. Well that has changed. In a couple of hours span, the calendar suddenly found me, liked me, stuffed my face with savory treats and promised me gigs and everything. For now the calendar is my pal, as chummy as a cherub. So, first gig up! My return to Snapdragon/Black Cat Cabaret, solo guitar, Friday, January 27th, 7- 9pm. Come on down, I might go electric … bring your hatchet.

Getting back to gigging! Coming up — an evening of solo guitar, keeping to the frayed edges of jazz. Saturday night April 9, at Vashon Brewing/Community Pub, gig starts at 6pm. Come on out, have a beer.

On the 23,628th day of my life I will be performing this collection of songs I call Timing is an Art is an Axe. There’s a good deal of improvisation, so some of the music will actually get birthed right there on the Black Cat Cabaret stage at Snapdragon … it could get messy. The oldest song I’ll be performing is at least 8000 days old. And yes, as of late, some of those older selections, like any sentient being, are going through something of a mid-life crisis, but I’m fairly certain they’ll pull through and shine like they did in their youth. Anyway, come on down, celebrate just another day, a Friday, on earth.

After 66 consecutive weeks of live streaming the Poodle Sessions, we’re taking Sunday the Fourth of July off. Not only is it MW’s birthday weekend, but photographer-videographer/the-funny-one/live-streaming-whiz Shelley Hanna and poodle Rose need a break too. We’ll be back the following week — same poodle time, same poodle channel …

MW will be performing, and perhaps with special guests, on the Sunday of that weekend, kind of a Jazz Brunch! And it’s a free event! Snapdragon Bakery & Cafe 17817 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon, WA 98070

The Poodle Sessions in June. A live streaming weekly event on FaceBook. Since March 2020, in lieu of the pandemic closing down live performances, Michael Whitmore has been playing solo every Sunday at 6pm PDT. Called the Poodle Sessions because the star of the 40/45 minute long concert has definitely been, from the very start, a very excited, almost feral, small poodle named Rose. The link to watch is always: http://www.facebook.com/michael.whitmore.14
